Background of the study
Student identification is a fundamental component of university operations, ensuring security, access control, and accurate record-keeping. Traditional methods of student identification, such as physical ID cards, have limitations, including the risk of loss, duplication, or theft. A digital student identification system offers a more secure, convenient, and efficient alternative, allowing for easy verification of student status and access to various campus services.
With advancements in digital technologies, universities can implement systems that allow students to access services such as library resources, examination halls, and secure areas using digital IDs stored on mobile devices or linked to biometric data (Ogunleye & Omotayo, 2023). In Ilorin East Local Government Area, Kwara State, a digital student identification system could improve campus security, streamline administrative processes, and reduce the burden of physical ID card management. This study aims to design and implement a digital student identification system that enhances security and student management processes at universities.
Statement of the problem
Universities in Ilorin East Local Government Area face challenges with the management and security of student identification. Traditional ID card systems are prone to issues such as loss, theft, and unauthorized duplication. This study aims to design and implement a digital student identification system that improves security and ease of access for students.
Objectives of the study

Significance of the study
The design and implementation of a digital student identification system will enhance campus security, streamline administrative processes, and reduce the risks associated with traditional ID cards. It will improve access to university services and facilitate a more efficient student management system.
Scope and limitations of the study
This study will focus on designing and implementing a digital student identification system for universities in Ilorin East Local Government Area, Kwara State. The system will only address student identification and access control and will not cover other aspects of university administration.
